More Variety, Different Types of Blogs

Of Course, Everyone Has Different Tastes and Interests

Zoë and Rich have both done excellently, but no matter how good the blog is, not everyone is interested in the same type of content. Not that this has been a problem or that it reflects on them in any way at all. It’s just part of the challenge of this project.

As I said before:

I could point to Seth’s blog, one of the most universally acclaimed and widely read blogs on the web, and a big chunk of you would be unimpressed. The same would be true of “I Can Has Cheezburger” or any popular blog.

We are a highly diverse group (if you haven’t browsed the sign-up section, you should), so it’s impossible to just point to one example or one standard as being good.

So this is one of the big challenges with this project. We like different flavors. (photo by nichole_e)

The Next Blog Will Cater to Those Who Like More Personal Blogs

After we’re done featuring FeverBee, I’ll make sure that we focus on a blog that isn’t about writing, community building, programming or anything else about blogging. Nothing wrong with that, and I think these first two blogs have been good choices, but it will be time to move on to someone who writes about something else.

Soon (I Hope) We’ll Have Multiple Featured Blogs to Appeal to a Variety of Interests

I’m working with a partner now to build the next version of this project on its own domain. An important feature of the new site will be that the layout will accomodate more than one featured blog at a time.

I’m going to keep the number of featured blogs small so that the numbers stay healthy, but this way we can have a higher percentage of participants being really engaged at any given time. This will also help increase the chances someone will find something they want to stick with.

Thanks for Bearing With Me

As many of you know, I had the idea for this on a Tuesday evening, published the idea early Wednesday morning, and the following Monday introduced Zoë. My plan was to go ahead and get moving and then improve the site as it went along.

Getting started fast was the right move, but as expected, it meant that not everything could be perfect right out of the gates.

Thanks for the great feedback and for your patience as I try to keep the momentum while also working on making improvements. I hope that we’re pretty close to implementing those improvements, and once that happens, I think people will find this even more fun.
